Melbourne Victory is delighted to announce that winger Leroy George will join the club on a one-year deal, following the successful completion of a medical.

Born in the South American country of Suriname, George spent the majority of his childhood in the Dutch city of Amsterdam before joining nearby Eredivisie club, FC Utrecht, in 2006.

Following 73 first team appearances and eight goals, George moved to Eredivisie rival N.E.C. where he racked up 81 games and another 11 goals throughout three seasons at the club. Most recently George had been playing in Azerbaijan and Turkey.

Melbourne Victory Head Coach Kevin Muscat said, “Leroy’s an impressive player with a strong pedigree, and one we’re really happy to have secured.”

“He’s physically very strong, has good speed and can score goals – exactly the type of player we had been chasing.”

“I’m really happy with how the squad is coming together, and Leroy’s signing adds further depth to what I feel is a balanced and versatile, yet very strong, playing group,” Muscat added.

George will commence training on Monday when he joins the rest of the squad.
