Geria to raise the bat

Jason Geria will play his 100th A-League game for Melbourne Victory, should he feature against Central Coast Mariners on Saturday.

The 24-year-old joined Victory from Brisbane Roar back in 2012, initially in the youth team before cementing his spot in the senior side in the 2013/14 season.

In reaching the milestone Geria joins an illustrious list of players who have had a significant impact on the club’s history, a fact not lost on the defender.

“It is pretty special, it’s not an occupation that is promised tomorrow so to be able to play this many games and to continue to play at this club is an honour,” Geria said.

“I’m really grateful, it’s a privilege to have played here for so long and I’m pretty appreciative of that milestone.”

Less than a week after learning of Victory’s interest, Geria, then 19, was in a new city at a new club with new team-mates.

He recalled his initial impressions of AAMI Park.

“I remember the first game I came to at AAMI Park, the noise and the atmosphere was a lot to take in.

“Also the way things are done here, training every day at these facilities [at AAMI Park] and obviously this is the biggest team in the country.”
