Honda primed for Perth clash

Honda primed for Perth clash

Kevin Muscat has provided updates on the fitness of two of his major off-season signings, addressing concerns around the fitness of Keisuke Honda and the availability of striker Ola Toivonen.

“He (Honda) is fine,” Muscat began.

“At training this can happen multiple during the week … he landed awkwardly, it was an innocuous knock.

“He’ll be fine to play tomorrow.”

Victory fans will have to wait a little longer for Ola Toivonen’s Hyundai A-League debut, with an ongoing niggle to sideline him for at least one more week.

“He’s been carrying a little bit of soreness low down in his calf which we’ve been treating.

“We haven’t been able to get enough work into him, but with the length of the season and the amount of games we’ve got towards the back end of the season, we’re not going to take any risks or rush him.”

Otherwise, Muscat said the health of his squad was in good shape with no further injuries or ailments to report ahead of the visit of a new-look Perth Glory.

“It’s an eight-day turnaround from last week, so we’ve managed to get some good work into the group.

“We’ve identified some positives from the performance and working hard on improving on those.

“We’ve had a good look at Perth after analysing and reviewing ourselves.

“They’re playing a different shape and system to what they’ve previously played, but this week has been more about what we do and how we can keep improving.”
