Hyundai and Melbourne Victory kick goals for junior football in Melbourne

On the 29th August, 2008 – the Harrisfield Hurricanes Junior Soccer Club accepted a cheque from Hyundai Motor Company Australia, after being selected by Melbourne Victory as the beneficiary of the Hyundai ‘Goals for Grassroots- program.

Already a proud supporter and sponsor of the Socceroos and naming rights sponsor of the Hyundai A-League, Hyundai is committed to investing in grassroots football within local communities around Australia through its ‘Goals for Grassroots- program.

For round 3 of the ‘Goals for Grassroots- program, Melbourne Victory nominated the Harrisfield Hurricanes Junior Soccer Club. The Melbourne Victory scored an emphatic 5-0 win in their game against Adelaide United last Friday evening ensuring the Harrisfield Hurricanes Junior Soccer Club receive a $5,000 donation from Hyundai.

The Harrisfield Hurricanes Junior Soccer Club caters to children from lower socio-economic backgrounds and the club plans on spending the donation on further assisting children to play football through supplementing their fees and providing specialist equipment.

“It-s fantastic to see a company like Hyundai getting behind grassroots football in our area. The parents and children involved in the club got a huge thrill from being at the game and knowing that they are part of a bigger picture. It will give the players of our club bigger and better things to strive for,” said George Tsianakas of the Harrisfield Hurricanes Junior Soccer Club.

“These kids are part of the future for football in Victoria and the Hyundai ‘Goals for Grassroots- program is a great way to ensure that that future is being looked after,” said Archie Thompson, key striker for Melbourne Victory.

One home game per round of the 2008/09 Hyundai A-League Season has been selected to be part of the ‘Goals for Grassroots- program. To be considered for a donation ahead of each home match, local football clubs should complete an application on-line at www.ilovefootball.com.au and submit why their club should receive support.

Grassroots clubs selected will benefit from an initial $1,000 donation from Hyundai Motor Company Australia, and an additional $1,000 per goal scored by the home team that nominated them (up to $5,000 total).

To be eligible to enter, local clubs must belong to an association affiliated to the Football Federation Australia.
