Melbourne Victory winger Marco Rojas is expecting to be fit for Friday night’s clash with Brisbane Roar at AAMI Park.

Rojas was substituted during the second half of Saturday night’s 2-0 win over Adelaide United at Coopers Stadium after suffering an ankle injury.

While it is still a day-by-day proposition, Rojas and the club’s medical staff are hopeful the Kiwi will get through training for the rest of the week and put his hand up to play.

“It’s looking good at the moment,” Rojas said on Tuesday. “I’d prefer not to declare that I’ll be alright and something else happens later on.

“But it’s healed well over the last couple of days, so it’s all positive signs.”

Victory is entering its busiest phase of the season, with four games in 14 days, including back-to-back trips to Wellington and Perth.

While it will be a challenging time for the squad, Rojas is confident there is enough depth at the club to be able to deal with the increased workload.

“We’ve always said the performance of the team and the success that we have on the pitch is not related to just the 11 players that play,” he said. “It’s a squad thing. It’s an entire club thing.

“The players have been training well that haven’t been playing. They’re ready for their chance.

“If they get their chance, I’m sure they’re going to take it with both hands.

“That’s why we as players that are playing have to make sure we’re giving everything we’ve got because we’ve got good players behind us.

“There’s good competition for places. You have to make sure you’re always doing well, you’re always giving 100 per cent and on your toes.

“There’s always guys waiting that are good enough to be in the starting XI.”
