Match Report | Victory Return To Winner’s List

Melbourne Victory have triumphed 2-1 over Perth Glory in Easter Sunday football.

Report

It was Easter Sunday football at AAMI Park as Tony Popovic’s side faced Perth Glory.

It was much of a back-and-forth for the first 15 minutes of the match, with neither team able to put together any passages of play.

Then, in the 17th minute, none other than Bruno Fornaroli found the back of the net to give our boys in blue the early lead.

Not even a minute later Bruno almost had a second but his shot from inside the box was blocked, ultimately going out for a corner.

Victory continued to put the pressure on and not let Perth build any momentum.

In the 20th minute, Jake Brimmer fired a rapid shot from outside the box but Glory’s Oli Sail kept the ball out.

Perth struggled for much of the first half, with our back four holding strong.

The second half started much like the first, with both teams eager to find a breakthrough.

Then Bruno did what Bruno did best.

A brilliant cross in the 53rd minute from outside the box from Daniel Arzani found the head of Fornaroli who expertly guided the ball past Sail to double our lead.

Our two-goal advantage didn’t last long, however, when Perth’s Daniel Bennie scored for the Glory.

Zinedine Machach had a chance to score a third for Victory in the 76th minute.

The French midfielder weaved his way into the box, but his shot was blocked by a Glory defender.

With time ticking down, our boys in blue held strong, denying Perth any chance of an equaliser.

The final whistle blew and all three points are ours.
