Match Report | Victory take Glory for a 2-0 win

It was another successful day at AAMI Park for Melbourne Victory with a convincing win over Perth Glory 2-0 in round seven of the Isuzu UTE A-League.

Celebrating Kids Round with the return of the Victory Village, Victory were determined to put on a good show going into the match against the 12th placed Perth Glory.

Despite a late change to the team, Kasey Bos out due to an injury sustained in training, Head Coach Patrick Kisnorbo’s game plan remained consistent and Victory were out to take control of the game early.

Zinédine Machach put Victory on the scoreboard first just seven minutes into the match, Jordi Valadon passing to Machach in the centre to enable a long run to the edge of the box for a low past Perth Glory goalkeeper Cameron Cook to secure his second goal of the season.

“It was good to get an early lead,” Kisnorbo said post-match.

“Again, we need to improve in our finishing aspect but it’s good that we are getting in certain areas. I think physically we were very good, our mentality was great, so overall I’m quite happy.”

It was a hard-fought contest with a few missed chances for Victory as their shots outnumbered Glory 25 to 2 at full time.

The score held at 1-0 into the break, Adama Traoré adding to Victory’s tally in the 57th minute thanks to Vergos putting through a defence splitting pass. Running onto it in the box, Traoré not only scored his first goal of the season but pushed Victory to maintain their dominance over a struggling Glory.

Managing to keep Perth to only one touch in Victory’s penalty area for the entire match, Kisnorbo credited the demands they put on themselves for the convincing win.

“I’ve always been a big advocate for hard work as a collective,” Kisnorbo said.

“Today we showed that.

“Especially with that second goal, it was a great collective effort. It was a great pass from Vergos and a great finish from Adama (Traoré). It was a collective goal but obviously Adama does the hardest thing and scores it so we are very happy.”

The Victory Men will now have a bye for round eight before lining up against Melbourne City at home on December 21 in the Christmas Derby.
