Melbourne Victory is pleased to announce defender, Angie Beard, has re-signed with the club ahead of the upcoming 2020/21 Westfield W-League season.
The 23-year-old is currently playing for KR Reykjavik in Iceland’s top-tier the Úrvalsdeild Kvenna.
With the W-League set to start on December 27, Beard will return to Australia to prepare for another season in the navy blue.
Beard said she is looking forward to pulling on the #8 jersey again.
“I’m really pleased and happy to be heading back to Melbourne to play for Victory this season,” Beard said.
“It is a truly special club and that comes down to the professional environment Jeff, his staff and the playing group have created in recent years.
“The loyal members and fans who turn up each week also make this club special, and I hope we get the opportunity to play in front of them again soon.
“We know we need to work extremely hard over the coming weeks if we want to find the improvement required to challenge for the title come the end of the season.”
Beard, a member of the 2018/19 Premiership squad, joins Lia Privitelli and Catherine Zimmerman as the latest player to sign for Victory this season.
Head Coach, Jeff Hopkins, said it is wonderful to have Beard back in the navy blue.
“It’s great to have Ange back playing for the club this season,” Hopkins said.
“Ange has been an integral part of our squad in recent years. She knows the way we want to play, she’s a great role model on and off the pitch and her drive is infectious for the group
“Not only does Ange provide stability in the backline, she enables us to quickly transition from defence to attack. We’re really pleased to have her home and look forward to her joining the squad in the coming weeks.”
Beard arrived at Victory ahead of the 2017/18 Westfield W-League season and has played 37 games for the club.
