Melbourne Victory is pleased to announce it has signed 2014/15 Championship winning centre-back, Nick Ansell, ahead of the upcoming A-League season.
Ansell returns to Victory having spent the past two seasons playing in South Korea for K-League 2 clubs Jeonnam Dragons and Gyeongnam FC.
The 26-year-old becomes the latest player to join the club, following the signings of Callum McManaman, Max Crocombe and Jake Brimmer this pre-season.
Ansell said he is excited to be back home playing for Victory.
“The club is a very special place for me. To have the opportunity to return to Melbourne, my hometown, and play for the Victory members and fans is fantastic,” Ansell said.
“I’m really looking forward to playing under Brebs. I obviously know him really well and he’s been clear he wants the team to play the Victory way, but just as importantly live the standards and expectations of the club off the pitch.
“Brebs is building an exciting squad, there’s a good mix of experience and young talent, and I can’t wait to get back on Gosch’s Paddock and put in the hard work over the coming weeks.”
Victory Head Coach, Grant Brebner, welcomed Ansell home to Victory.
“It is wonderful to have Nick back at the club,” Brebner said.
“Nick is a local lad. He started in the Victory youth system and worked his way up the ranks to win a Championship with the club in 2015.
“He understands the expectation which comes when you pull on the Victory shirt, both from inside and outside the dressing room. Nick also knows the level of commitment and work required to achieve success at this club.
“We’re looking forward to seeing Nick work hard on the training track over the coming weeks. Given his experience, we know he will help us drive the standards and expectations to help us improve as a squad.”
