Melbourne Victory took a significant step towards setting a new membership record on Thursday, with the club surpassing last season’s total of 17,225 and closing in on its previous best of 22,600, which was set in 2007/08.

Over 4000 Melbourne Victory fans signed up as members in the two weeks leading up to the club’s season opener against Central Coast Mariners on Thursday, with a further 300 joining at Etihad Stadium on match day.

Memberships in the North and South Ends of Etihad Stadium have been hugely popular, with priority access to seating at the new Melbourne Rectangular Stadium also providing a great incentive for members.

Melbourne Victory General Manager of Marketing, Membership and Communications Trent Jacobs said with over 4000 new members this season and limited quality seats available, members from last season yet to renew are urged to do so as quickly as possible.

“The retention of Melbourne Victory members over the past five years has been phenomenal and really shows that our club has become entrenched in the hearts and minds of Melbourne football followers,” Jacobs said.

“The response from our members this season has been particularly pleasing as we track towards our membership record of 22,600.

“Our Premium A and C seating categories have had a particularly strong response this season, which I-m sure is a result of high expectations, but also supporters recognising that the best way to guarantee a seat in the new Rectangular Stadium is to buy a seat now.”

The club’s new Reward and Recognition Program has also proved successful, with plenty of loyalty fulfilment items, including scarves for Silver Members and caps for Blue Members, on display at Etihad Stadium on Thursday.

Melbourne Victory memberships are available online through melbournevictory.com.au, by calling 1300 GO MVFC (46 6832), or from the Victory Shop, 236 Swan Street, Richmond.
