The biggest game of the year is here. The Christmas Derby is back, and Victory Men are lining up against Melbourne City at AAMI Park on Saturday 21 December at 7:35pm for round nine of the Isuzu UTE A-League.
Returning to the pitch following a bye last week, Victory are confident thanks to their recent form and will be hungry to secure another three points.
Having played City once already this season in round two and coming away with a 3-1 win, the return of Nishan Velupillay being named to the extended 20-man squad following an ankle injury will only be an added boost.
Widely known as one of the hottest tickets in town, the Derby promises to be actioned packed with hometown bragging rights on the line.
Melbourne Victory:
Melbourne Victory enter the match with Nishan Velupillay returning from injury and now eligible to play, as well as the under the leadership of interim Head Coach Arthur Diles. Coming off a comfortable win over Perth Glory, the squad will be chasing important points before a road trip to Sydney and Auckland over the New Year.
Melbourne City:
After a nail-biting draw with Auckland FC, City will be aiming to put a dampener on Victory’s home Derby to cement their spot in the top three before they have a bye in round 10.
