Summary

The game burst into life as Teague unleashed a precision pass, finding Arzani on the run. Arzani’s shot narrowly missed the target, hitting the side netting.

Machach had a golden opportunity in the 9th minute to put us ahead as Nish delivered an inviting cross. Machach had two bites at the cherry, but Sydney’s defence and Redmayne between the sticks held firm.

The first half continued with Izzo in goal showcasing his shot-stopping skills, denying Sydney with a save from point-blank range.

A defining moment in the first half came as Nish found himself with a clear-cut chance, courtesy of an Adama Traore pass. With an open goal in front of him, Nish sent the ball to the right of the post.

After an eventful first half full of chances, the scores remained level.

The second half began with Tony Popovic’s side still on the attack. Machach had his chance to break the deadlock but saw his shot blocked by Sydney’s resilient defence.

Rai had the best opportunity of the match up to that point, as Zizou showcased his remarkable run down the right, delivering a pinpoint cross to Nish, who then set up Rai in the box. However, Redmayne displayed his shot-stopping prowess once more, keeping the scoreline level.

The deadlock was broken in the 63rd minute by none other than Bruno Fornaroli after he capitalized on a defensive slip and unleashed a thunderous shot from outside the box, leaving Redmayne with no chance.

On his debut for Melbourne Victory, Zinedine Machach showcased his incredible talent in the 87th minute. A brilliant solo run down the left flank, dribbling past multiple defenders, and then coolly slotted the ball into the net to make it 2-0 and seal the win.

The resounding win sets the stage for an exciting season and sets us up for what is only going to be a belter of a home opener next weekend.
