More Melbourne Derby success could propel Victory says Diles

Arthur Diles knows the Melbourne Derby is worth much more than three points.

The fixture’s 51st episode on Saturday, February 21, kick-off 7:35pm AEDT, at AAMI Park, presents more than just an opportunity to make an addition to the win column.

Victory, unbeaten in their last two, are currently sixth on the ladder, aware that now is the prime time to build up a head of steam as the 2025/26 season approaches its closing chapters.

And the good feeling on offer from retaining derby bragging rights, following December’s success over City, can be critical to this.

Speaking during his pre-match press conference, Diles did not shy away from the match’s importance, recognising its value beyond this weekend.

“We’re getting down to the business end of the season now. We’ve got a lot of big games coming up, but this is the biggest. Games like this give you momentum, give you that confidence, give you that belief.

“The run home now is close. The end is near, and we ought to make sure we take nothing for granted and leave nothing to chance. And we want to make sure we’re ready Saturday night to do everything we can to get a positive outcome.”

Head Coach, Arthur Diles, instructing his side at AAMI Park.

On the fitness front, Victory are shaping up well for the Melbourne Derby. Whilst they will be without Louis D’Arrigo, Reno Piscopo could make a return.

“We’re just waiting on Reno to see if he pulls through. But apart from that, everyone’s fit and healthy to go, apart from Louis, as we all know. There’s no update on Louis, but everyone else looks like they’re fit and healthy.”
