Nishan Velupillay | Repaying The Faith

“We want to make AAMI Park a fortress again.”

Olyroo and Victory forward Nishan Velupillay has started the 2023/24 season in fine form, having earned a spot in Tony Popovic’s Starting XI.

Velupillay rewarded Popovic for his faith last weekend when the dynamic attacker scored his first goal of the new campaign to top off a dominant win in our Round Two win over Newcastle Jets.

“It’s good to get off the mark, and scoring early in the season is always better,” the 22-year-old said.

“The Boss has a lot of faith and trust in me and it’s up to me to repay that.

“Right now I feel really good physically and mentally, so we just continue on from here.”

Fresh off signing a new three-year extension with the Club, Nish said he was excited to extend his time in Melbourne.

“I’m excited to be able to continue here at the Club,” Velupillay said.

“Victory is a Club that means so much to me. I supported the Club as a kid, I’ve come through the Academy and now, to be able to extend my journey even further drives me to achieve big things.”

Looking ahead to Saturday’s Original Rivalry Double Header, Nish was as excited as ever to play in front of a packed AAMI Park.

“We’ll be looking to go into the game to win it, we’re always up for an Original Rivalry,” he said.

“You saw on the weekend how much energy the fans can bring us and that always helps our performance.

“They’re like a twelfth man for us.

“Our job is to repay them and we want to make AAMI Park a fortress again.”
