NPL preview: Victory v Goulburn Valley

Melbourne Victory looks to build on its recent win when it hosts the Goulburn Valley Suns in the NPL2 West on Sunday.

Victory returned to winning ways in Round 10, beating the Eastern Lions 2-1 in a hard-fought clash.

After captain Jonathan Vakirtzis’ stunner was cancelled out, Pierce Waring scored a late winner for Victory.

Waring’s goal was his fourth of the season, the teenager forward’s tally coming in just three games.

Victory moved into sixth on the table with its win, sitting just five points off second.

It welcomes the Goulburn Valley Suns, who are seventh in the NPL2 East, to Epping Stadium on Sunday.

The teams last met in August last year, when the Suns claimed a 2-1 win in Shepparton.

Head coach Gareth Naven

“I think collectively we’re always trying to move forward as a group and just that the players recognise what the effort looks like. That’s what we’ve been focusing on with the team and how that effort can help us in regards to our performance. Once again, this match is really important to us and we’ll make sure the things that are important, we need to keep doing and improve on those things that we need to get better at as well.”
