O’Grady speaks to the mentality of Victory Women

Ella O’Grady believes Melbourne Victory’s togetherness is giving them an edge over opponents.

The Ninja A-League Women’s team take to the field for the first time in 2026 this weekend, welcoming Brisbane Roar to the Home of the Matildas on Sunday, January 11, kick-off 5pm AEDT.

This follows a requisite breather for the Girls in Blue, following a run of three games across eight days as the action came thick and fast over the festive period.

Before the recess, O’Grady netted a memorable leveller away to Central Coast Mariners, with the 20-year-old attacker scoring Victory’s third goal in second-half injury-time to claim a point.

Speaking during her pre-match press conference, O’Grady reflected on her heroic equaliser and discussed the squad’s mentality.

“Yeah, I’ve watched it a couple of times!

“I think having the mentality that you don’t want to lose and coming back in added time from three goals down, that’s quite hard to do. Watching it back, I felt like I had chills down my spine.”

Focusing in on the Roar clash, O’Grady is confident that the team has turned a corner and will right the wrongs of the Round 1 reverse in Brisbane.

“We had a new squad, new players came in, and we hadn’t really set that Victory mentality yet.

“I think it took a while to get there, and I think after last week, that just shows what we’re all about as a team and how we can come back.”
