Pollicina motivated for Victory’s trip to Sydney

Melbourne Victory’s Rhianna Pollicina expressed the importance of the Girls on Blue keeping the focus on themselves amid their charge for finals football.

Playing a crucial role in her first season with the Club, Pollicina’s ambitious nature has shone through with a place in the Ninja A-League’s top six on the line for Melbourne Victory.

Returning to her home state for Victory’s Round 21 Big Blue clash on Saturday, March 28, kick-off 5pm AEDT, the midfielder will hope to continue her top performances when the Girls in Blue take on Sydney FC at Leichhardt Oval.

Recovering and returning to the pitch in remarkably quick fashion after suffering a notable wrist fracture against Adelaide United in January, Pollicina was pleased to reveal her journey to full health took a big leap during Victory’s two-week break.

“The wrist is all good, I’m out of the splint now full-time. The recovery went all well, I saw the surgeon not long ago, that was all smooth. Just strapping it up to play now.

“I’m not someone that likes to miss football, so the 10 days that I was off-field, I was very annoying and the staff had to definitely hold me back.

“I had the determination to get on the field ASAP, only missed the one game. And then I was straight back in starting against Newcastle, which was nice.”

Pollicina holding off a pressing defender during Victory’s previous outing against Western Sydney Wanderers at The Home of the Matildas.

Hungry now to show her best in a potential season-defining clash against rivals Sydney FC, the 29-year-old knows the quality that the Sky Blues possess, but is confident in her team’s ability above all.

“With this league it doesn’t matter where you are on the table, and it’s been proven the last few weeks, bottom teams can beat the top teams. So we know it’s going to be a tough game no matter what. They’ve got some quality individuals that we need to look out for as well.

“They’ve got a new coach that is going to be motivated to get his wins going as well, so it’s going to be a tough game, but we need to be our best and if we are at our best we can beat anyone on that day.”
