Melbourne Victory head coach Tony Popovic was proud of his side’s defensive display in their 0-0 draw with Brisbane, but believes more work is needed to improve in attack.
On the performance…
“I think we controlled the game. Even in the first half I think we controlled it very well. We had to be aware of some transition moments from Brisbane, but I thought away from home we did very well in the first half.”
“In the second obviously we had the advantage. Unfortunately, we couldn’t break them down.”
“Overall I thought we had a good game. We were just lacking in the box a little bit.”
On the conditions…
“I think we coped very well [with the heat]. If you look at the whole game I thought we did very well up until the send-off for them…but unfortunately in the final third we were lacking.”
On Nani’s performance…
“He is a top player. He looked in total control in the first half. We just have to find ways to get him more involved in the final third.”
On the defensive display…
“It is our first clean sheet, which is a positive because we have conceded in all of our games.”
“It was away from home, in the heat, a difficult match. I thought from the start as the away team we controlled the game very well for the first 45 minutes.”
On the need to score more goals…
“We have to rectify that.”
“It is not because of a lack of opportunities. I think today we had numerous opportunities. But we lacked the cutting edge or the final ball was delayed and obviously you need to give the opponent credit as well.”
