Head Coach Tony Popovic spoke to the media after Victory’s thrilling 2-3 win over Perth Glory.
On the performance…
“Yeah, tough, difficult game. We went a goal down and we had to come back, which we did. And then the last part was obviously Perth got the equaliser and we still found a way to get a goal in the last couple of minutes, which is credit to the players.”
“I thought we had good control. They defended very well, wasn’t easy. Their keeper made some good saves. In the end, I thought we got a good win and away from home.”
“At 2-2, I was a bit disappointed because I thought at 1-2 we dropped off, we started giving the ball away, we started playing the time.”
“That’s probably the only disappointing part I had was at 1-2, we gave the ball away, we got sloppy, we gave corner after corner away, which is very unnecessary.”
“Obviously we’re delighted and we scored three goals away from home. Our run continues. We’re still undefeated and the character the players are showing, we’re very proud of the way they played.”
On Connor Chapman’s newborn…
“Connor and his partner had their first child, so there was something for him that was difficult this week in terms of sleeping and whether he was going to come or not, it was touch and go. I thought he had a great game.”
“We’ll celebrate a bit tonight for Connor and his baby girl, his first child. So a lot of things have happened this week and we’re happy. We’ll recover well from a difficult trip and go again.”
On not having Bruno…
“I know there is a lot of focus and I understand the questions about Bruno, but at any moment a player can get injured, suspended and then you’re without a player.”
“The focus shouldn’t be on Bruno. The focus should be on Bruno now when we go watch against Bahrain and hopefully he plays, but we’re happy with the win and the players that played should get the credit.”
