POST-MATCH REACTION | Tony Popovic on 2-2 draw against Central Coast

A-League Men’s coach Tony Popovic spoke to the media post-match after his side’s draw against the Central Coast Mariners.

On the performance…

“I think at 2-1, once we came back and hit the front, I believe we could have done a little better.”

“It’s difficult to play here, you know. And once they got the goal, they had some confidence.”

“But, you know, our goal before halftime is important. We got the ascendancy leading into the second goal and we were playing well.”

“And then, of course, the momentum shifted again, once we gave away the penalty and they scored.”.

On the next six months…

“We’ve had two tough away games but we’ve got two points. So we’re pleased with that.”

“Looking ahead, we want to get some more continuity, get some more minutes into players so we can finish the game out a little bit better.”

“We know that we’ve got the football that can keep improving to get the wins.”

On the team’s depth…

“These young boys are now getting an opportunity because they deserve it.”

“Young Nishan is now starting to start games, Ryan Teague started today with Jake Brimmer.”

“But they’re younger players that still need to build match conditioning and match fitness.”

“It’s a good exciting dynamic group.”
