Post-Match Reaction | Tony Popovic on Newcastle Draw

Head Coach Tony Popovic spoke to the media after Victory’s draw against the Newcastle Jets

On the performance…

“Obviously a disappointing end to the game, which has been a bit of a habit of late.”

“We’ve had now four from five (games) away from home and we’ve been in a position to win all the games, and at the end of the match we’re letting it slip.”

“It’s something we have to have a look at.”

“I think prior to that we need to try and put teams away and then if there’s an error at the end, it will be less costly.”

On the reasons for conceding late goals…

“It’s a bit of everything. We have to look at everything.”

“I thought we looked tired in the second half.”

“But I thought we had good opportunities to put the game away.”

“We’re also getting punished…it’s a great ball, it’s one real chance in the second half and we get punished.”

“But we’ve got to look at what we can do better. There are areas that we must improve, because we’re putting ourselves in very good positions to win these games.”

On Bruno Fornaroli’s return…

“I haven’t spoken to him.”

“At the moment I’m sure he’s disappointed that [the Socceroos] didn’t go through, he played 30 odds minutes there in extra time.”

“We’ll assess Bruno when he gets back and just go day-by-day, see how he is.”
