Melbourne Victory have fallen just short of the 2024/25 season ending they were hoping for, going down to Melbourne City in the Isuzu UTE A-League Grand Final.
In a landmark 20th season for the Club, it was a year of excitement and remarkable performances for Victory as they fought their way to a second consecutive Championship decider. Despite the loss, there are many positives to take from the campaign, with the team defying the odds and keeping the competition on its toes.
“It’s a result that didn’t go our way, but it doesn’t change the success of our season,” Diles said.
“We’ve had a fantastic season to get here. I can’t thank the playing group enough, my coaching staff and everyone involved. It’s not easy to get to a Grand Final. Everyone knows that. People have worked tirelessly, and the players have worked really hard to get here.
“We didn’t quite get there, we fell just short, but at the end of the day, that’s football. There is sadness now, but we’ll wake up tomorrow morning, look forward, and bounce back.”
Having fallen just short, Diles said it was disappointing to walk away without the silverware, as the playing group wanted it not just for themselves, but even more so for the fans who filled the stands at AAMI Park every week.
“We tried. We gave it everything. It was intense. It was a typical final, we didn’t give much away, but in the end, one goal was the difference. It’s disappointing for the amazing fans we have at Victory, who pack out the stands to support us. We’re grateful to them and, despite the result, it’s been a successful season, something we should all be proud of as we look forward to going one better next year.”
Melbourne Victory thanks our incredible members and fans for their unwavering support throughout the 2024/25 season.
