School Sport Victoria

Melbourne Victory and SSV are focused on developing grassroots football, and support the explosive growth of the game throughout Victoria. This key partnership has seen the creation of the adidas Victory Cup for primary school competition and the Community Training Initiatives Victory Cup for secondary school competition.

In recent years, the participation rates of junior football have increased dramatically with many children seeing football as a fresh new alternative compared to other more traditional sporting codes.

School Sport Victoria provides regular sporting opportunities to over 74% of Victorian School Students. They currently operate in 2,300 schools, engaging 550,000 students in government, catholic and independent schools.

Melbourne Victory and School Sport Victoria have developed a strong partnership for the primary and secondary school football competitions in 2014. The school football competitions are a much more exciting proposition as new community sponsors adidas and Community Training Initiatives have joined forces with Melbourne Victory Football Club to create the following competitions

adidas Victory Cup
> Grade 5 and 6 football competition (Mixed and Girls)

Community Training Initiatives Victory Cup
> Year 7 – football competitions (Boys and Girls)
> Year 8 – football competitions (Boys and Girls)
> Intermediate – Year 9 and 10 football competitions (Boys and Girls)
> Senior – Year 11 and 12 football competitions (Boys and Girls)

Trials open for Team Vic squads
School Sport Victoria (SSV) is pleased to announce the Team Vic 19 years and under (U20) boys and girls football trial process for 2014.

Players selected will join a prestigious and privileged list of elite athletes who have represented SSV and competed at a high level at the School Sport Australia (SSA) Championships.

The players selected for the SSV Team Vic teams will be identified as the best and elite footballers in secondary schools in Victoria.

The footballers selected will be expected to demonstrate outstanding skills and football knowledge, professionalism and dedication, as well as a high level of commitment and determination.

They will also need to show good sportsmanship, team work and fair play.

The SSA Championships highlight these qualities and engages the players with the highest standard of competition against quality opposition. Participation in the championships provides the opportunity to develop friendships and build networks which enable life-long memories and experiences.

The SSV Team Vic officials commit to the provision of high-level coaching and mentoring for all team members to have the opportunity to reach their full potential.

Areas covered include: sports psychology, injury management, nutrition, fitness and conditioning, strategy and problem solving, according to the FFA curriculum.

At this competition, SSV endeavours to reach success on many levels regardless of the results. Victorian footballers have proven to be motivated to excel and develop into professional, knowledgeable, passionate and skilful athletes.

Players will be selected through three trials where a selection committee from SSV will identify the 16 best candidates to represent Victoria at the SSA Championships, which will be held from August 23-29, 2014 at the Valentine Sports Park, Glenwood, New South Wales.
