Melbourne Victory heads into its bye in the Westfield W-League on the back of a record-breaking start to the season.

Victory is five points clear atop the table after winning four and drawing one of its opening five games.

It marks the first time in club history that Victory has won four of its first five matches in the Westfield W-League.

Its haul of 13 points through five games is also a record.

2018/19: 13 points
2013/14: 10 points
2014: 10 points

Victory has conceded just four goals, which equals its best start defensively, matching 2009 and 2012/13.

Led by goalkeeper Casey Dumont, centre-backs Laura Alleway and Samantha Johnson and full-backs Angela Beard, Teigen Allen and Annabel Martin, Victory has been strong defensively.

In attack, its nine goals through five games is the most it has struck since the 2014 season (14 goals), one of only two campaigns – Victory scored 13 in 2013/14 – when it has netted more.

Captain Natasha Dowie (five goals) has led the way, while Christine Nairn, Emily Gielnik and Melina Ayres have also scored this season.

Victory’s first game after its bye will see it make the trip to Brisbane to face the Roar on December 16.
