What made the huge win all the more remarkable was the fact that the AIS was reduced to 10 men for over an hour.
After going winless in its first 18 matches this season, the AIS ended up winning three of its last six – two of which came against Melbourne.
Kamal Ibrahim opened up the scoring for the hosts in the 17th minute but five minutes later their job of securing a win was severely jeopardised when Paul Izzo was shown a red card.
And it appeared to be an uphill battle for the AIS when Victory striker Nathan Elasi leveled proceedings three minutes before half-time at 1-1.
However, it wouldn’t be long before the AIS found itself in front again when defender Kevin Davison scored in the 43rd minute, ensuring his team would head into the break with a 2-1 lead.
Melvin Becket doubled the AIS’s advantage 23 minutes after the restart and forward Nikola Stanojevic made the scoreline an incredible 4-1 three minutes later.
Ryan Edwards completed the rout in the 90th minute when he became the victors’ fifth goal scorer for the day.
