Melbourne Victory duo Carlos Hernandez and Jose Luis Lopez have been selected for Costa Rica-s upcoming 2010 FIFA World Cup qualifiers against Suriname and Haiti next month.
Lopez and Hernandez, who has been recalled after missing Costa Rica-s recent matches against Suriname and Haiti, will face Suriname in Paramaribo on Saturday, 11 October and Haiti in San Jose on Wednesday, 15 October.
Victory Football Operations Manager Gary Cole is hopeful the pair will return in time for the club-s match against Newcastle Jets at EnergyAustralia Stadium on Saturday, 18 October.
“Carlos has been working hard at training has been playing some great football this season, so he-s been rewarded and is delighted to be back in the Costa Rican side for their World Cup qualifiers,” Cole said.
“Jose Luis has been outstanding since arriving in Australia earlier this year and was also a notable performer in Costa Rica-s two World Cup qualifiers earlier this month.
“We-re currently working with the Costa Rican federation to see if we can get the players back in time for our match against Newcastle, although you lose a day flying from that part of the world, so it-s unlikely at this stage.”
Lopez started in both Costa Rica-s 7-0 win against Suriname and 3-1 win against Haiti earlier this month, and a further six points in October would see the country advance to the fourth and final stage of CONCACAF qualifying.
