Victory looking to build more momentum

Defender Alan Baro says Melbourne Victory will use the remaining rounds of the Hyundai A-League season to build momentum for the Finals Series.

That process starts on Saturday night against Brisbane Roar at Suncorp Stadium, despite Victory having its squad decimated by international call-ups.

“Our mentality is to use these last games to keep going and keep a good standard for us,” Baro said.

“It’s important to keep going, concentrate on winning and make sure (we lock in) the second position.

“It’s very good for our players to go to the national teams, and we’re happy for them.

“This weekend we have a lot of teammates who have the chance to start, and I’m pretty sure they will do well.”

Baro has been a mainstay in the heart of the Victory defence all season, making 21 appearances.

His contract comes to end at the completion of the current campaign, but the 31-year-old’s immediate focus is on playing his role for the team and discussing his future when the time comes.

“At this point, I will finish my contract in May and we will see at the end of the season,” he said.

“I don’t worry about it. I want to concentrate and keep going with the team and make the best things with the team.

“And then at the end (of the season), we will see.”
