Melbourne Victory is pleased to announce exciting young midfielder MelindaJ Barbieri has re-signed with the club ahead of the 2020/21 Westfield W-League season.
The Australia U20 representative is set to pull on the navy blue jersey again after sitting out last season with an ACL injury.
A member of the club’s 2018/19 Premiership team, the 20-year-old is a welcome addition to Victory’s midfield group this season.
Barbieri said she was counting down the days until the W-League season kicks-off on December 27.
“It’s wonderful to have re-signed with the club. I want to thank Jeff Hopkins, the staff and my teammates for all their support and help in my recovery,” Barbieri said.
“It was really tough watching the team from the sidelines last season, but I’m really enjoying training with the squad and we can’t wait to get back on the pitch and start competing again.
“We have built a really special environment at this club and we are looking to keep working hard to improve on the past two seasons. To have the opportunity to play in front of our loyal members and fans again is going to be very special.”
W-League Head Coach Jeff Hopkins said it was fantastic to see Barbieri back training with the squad.
“After missing last season, it’s great to see Mindy back out working hard alongside her teammates,” Hopkins said.
“She has put in all the hard work to get through her rehabilitation and be back training this pre-season. It’s a credit to her professionalism and showcases just how driven she is to help our squad continue to improve.
“Mindy adds depth to our midfield group, but she also shows great leadership in driving the standards we expect of the group.
“We are working hard to improve on the foundations we have built over the past two seasons and looking forward to another big season ahead.”
