Victory trio selected for international duty

Melbourne Victory foreigners Carlos Hernandez, Surat Sukha and Glen Moss will travel abroad to represent their respective countries in international matches on Wednesday, March 3.

Melbourne Victory foreigners Carlos Hernandez, Surat Sukha and Glen Moss will travel abroad to represent their respective countries in international matches on Wednesday, March 3.

The trio will head overseas after Melbourne Victory’s opening AFC Champions League 2010 game against Beijing Guoan on Tuesday and return in time for the Hyundai A-League Major Semi Final 2nd Leg against Sydney FC at Sydney Football Stadium on Sunday, March 7.

Hernandez has been selected for Costa Rica’s friendly against Chile in Santiago, while Suhka will travel to Tehran for Thailand’s crucial AFC Asian Cup 2011 qualifier against Iran and Moss has been named for New Zealand’s friendly against Mexico in Los Angeles.

Hernandez last represented Costa Rica in September and has been recalled to the national team following a string of impressive performances that saw him become the first Melbourne Victory player to win the Johnny Warren Medal on Monday.

Sukha is set to return for Thailand after missing last month’s King’s Cup tournament against Denmark, Poland and Singapore with a hamstring injury.

Three points for Thailand in the Iranian capital will see it qualify for its sixth consecutive AFC Asian Cup, while one point will leave the Thais hoping for a draw between Singapore and Jordan to secure a place at next year’s tournament in Qatar.

Despite being suspended for the first two matches of the 2010 FIFA World Cup, goalkeeper Moss is expected to start in the All Whites’ match against Mexico, having been one of New Zealand’s best performers at last year’s FIFA Confederations Cup.

“Carlos, Surat and Glen have all established themselves as quality international players and the upcoming FIFA international window provides a perfect opportunity for them to represent their respective countries,” Melbourne Victory Football Operations Manager Gary Cole said.

“The players will depart after our first ACL match in Beijing and we’ve worked with all three national bodies to ensure they return to Australia in time for our game against Sydney at Sydney Football Stadium on March 7.”
