Victory W-League squad starts to take shape

Melbourne Victory is putting the finishing touches to its Westfield W-League playing roster, three weeks out from the start of the 2016/17 season.

New Victory W-League coach Jeff Hopkins is assembling a talented squad consisting of emerging local talent, players with established experience in the national competition and some international stars.

Players returning from the 2015/16 campaign include reigning Victory Women’s Medal winner Annabel Martin and Young Player of the Season MelindaJ Barbieri.

Midfield twins Adriana and Melissa Taranto, Gulcan Koca, Laura Spiranovic, Alexandra Natoli and Selin Kurulay have also re-signed for the new season.

Former Brisbane Roar midfielder Ayesha Norrie is one of the new faces in the squad, along with South Melbourne defender Alex Cheal, Bulleen Lions winger Lia Privitelli and Calder United forward Rachel Alonso.

The complete squad, including the announcement of the club’s international signings, is expected to be finalised in the coming week.

Victory’s Westfield W-League campaign starts with a trip to Coopers Stadium to take on Adelaide United on Sunday, November 6.

It then hosts its next two games at Lakeside Stadium against Newcastle Jets and Sydney FC, before a Melbourne Derby at AAMI Park in Round 4.
