Melbourne Victory Women duo Stephanie Catley and Caitlin Friend have been selected in the Westfield Women’s Under-16 squad for the Asean Football Federation U16 Women’s Championship 2009 in Yangon, Myanmar.
After an intensive final selection camp, Coach Robert Hooker announced the 20-player squad ahead of the team’s first match against the Philippines on October 10.
“The Championships in Myanmar will be great preparation for this squad as we prepare for a busy 12-month period,” Hooker said.
“Of course we are going there to win but we also have a major tournament to prepare for with the AFC Asian Cup in November.
“This group of young players are some of the most technically gifted that Australia has produced and have the ability to take women-s football to another level.”
