Victory’s Jack Duncan on what will decide Melbourne Derby

The race for silverware is already on the mind of Jack Duncan, with the Melbourne Derby being just one piece of a bigger puzzle.

It may only be Round 4 of the Isuzu UTE A-League Men’s, but the ambition is crystal clear for Melbourne Victory after they fell agonisingly short in May’s Grand Final against Melbourne City at AAMI Park.

Now ready for a rematch on Saturday, November 8, kick-off 7.35pm AEDT, Victory and their 32-year-old goalkeeper are not going to let the occasion cloud their judgment when it comes to winning the key moments.

Speaking during his pre-match press conference, Duncan explained how memories of the Grand Final are informing his preparation for the Men’s First Team’s latest match.

“We reflect on that as a whole, as a missed opportunity to win silverware, not so much as the game itself, as a derby or anything like that. I think it’s about us learning from the lessons that the game taught us.

“As an individual, to think about the moments and games where you’ve got to really step up, and as a team, make the most of those moments when they come.

“For us, it’s about going into that game going, ‘Okay, we need to capitalise on those moments’. Then moving forward to where we want to be at the end of the year. We want to be in another Grand Final, and we want to be lifting the silverware this time.”
