Melbourne Victory’s Nishan Velupillay has been selected by Australia for their upcoming FIFA Series 2026 internationals.
The 24-year-old attacker has been named in Tony Popovic’s 26-player squad for the National Men’s Team’s matches in FIFA’s expanded cross-confederation initiative.
Australia will play against Cameroon in Sydney and face Curacao at the familiar setting of AAMI Park, the Socceroos’ final outings on home soil ahead of the 2026 FIFA World Cup, which starts in June.
Velupillay, who made a goalscoring international debut versus China in October 2024, has five caps for his country.
Melbourne Victory Director of Football, John Didulica, commented:
“This call-up is testament to Nish’s professionalism over the past year. He has worked tremendously hard to overcome injury and return to regular game time, which ensures he is now primed to resume his association with the Socceroos.
“Everyone saw previously what he was capable of on the international stage, and ahead of the World Cup, we look forward to seeing him performing for Australia once more.”
Good luck, Nish!
