Injured Melbourne Victory midfielder Gui Finkler says he is looking forward to getting back on the pitch, as he works to recover from his ruptured anterior cruciate ligament (ACL).

Finkler suffered the serious knee injury in the Round 14 clash against Western Sydney Wanderers and underwent knee reconstruction surgery shortly after, ruling him out of the last half of the 2012/13 season.

The Brazilian said the recovery process had been long and arduous and the hard work was not over yet.

Finkler has just had his six-month check up and said everybody was positive about his recovery so far.

“We saw the doctor, he was happy, so now I’m happy also,” Finkler said.

“He (the doctor) was saying everything is going very well, so I hope to be ready for the season and now I have to keep working hard.”

The 27-year-old said one of the more difficult aspects of the recovery process was being unable to take part in regular training sessions.

“That’s the hardest part for injured players, being outside of the pitch and seeing our teammates training everyday and we are just running far away from the ball – but that’s our job at the moment,” he said.

Finkler was the Hyundai A-League assist leader before the knee injury ended his season. He is now looking forward to making a big impact upon his return to the competition when the season starts in October.
