With several stars missing through international duty, Melbourne Victory fielded some familiar, but young names – and they showed the world just how good they can be.

Liverpool coach Brendan Rodgers also took time after the match to praise Melbourne Victory’s performance.

“Melbourne Victory is a very good side,” Rodgers said.

“It’s been an absolute honour. We arrived the other day to the airport and (the atmosphere) was like a boxing ring on the way out, but how we’ve been received has been phenomenal.

“It’s been a really humbling experience as a manager to feel that support. On behalf of us all I’d like to say a big, big thank you and I’m sure that one day we’ll be together again.”
