Muscat revealed defender Adrian Leijer and midfielder Tom Rogic hadn’t recovered in time for Friday’s final, but were both in line for Tuesday’s AFC Champions League clash in Korea.
With Sydney FC having taken two wins out of three from Victory in the regular season, Muscat said the elimination final would give his side a chance to get its first win against the Sky Blues for 2013/14.
“It’s a finals games, it will be a good occasion, Melbourne loves a big occasion and this is as big as they come for us,” Muscat said.
“The players deserve a big crowd to come out and really get behind them.”
Asked if he was happy with the performances on the pitch, Muscat said there had been good signs in the last few weeks, but the focus was firmly on a big Friday night effort.
“We’ve not achieved anything yet, there’s still a lot more to achieve from this group,” Muscat said.
“We’ve got some goals that we want to achieve and we are headed in the right direction.”
Muscat said the news on Leijer was positive, but the defender wouldn’t be ready for Friday’s final.
“He’ll work tirelessly to get himself ready for Tuesday. It’s just a bad knock now to the top of his foot. He’s worked so hard to get himself right from his fractures in his face so from his perspective it’s pretty disappointing.”
