VPL Coaches Notes: Victory held by Bulleen

Melbourne Victory played out an entertaining encounter against Bulleen Lions as they claimed their first draw of the 2025/26 VPL season.

The Boys in Blue came from behind to lead at The Home of The Matildas on Monday night, but conceded an equaliser a quarter of an hour from full-time, having to settle for a point in Round 4.

Yug Gandhi’s opener for the visitors was cancelled out by a 36th-minute finish from Mikey Ghossaini as the teams went into the break level.

Victory then went ahead early in the second half, with Jing Reec on target for the hosts, only to be pegged back when Connor Bell levelled for Bulleen as the contest ended two apiece in Bundoora.

Speaking to MelbourneVictory.com.au, Senior Academy Head Coach, Besart Berisha, felt his team could have taken more from the fixture.

“I thought we were the better team throughout the duration of the game. For large parts of the game, we were dominant. We controlled the game, created a lot of chances and should’ve scored more goals.

“With a 2-1 advantage, the match was in our hands, and it was disappointing that we couldn’t see out the game. We need to learn to convert our dominance and chances into goals and not allow the opposition back into the game.”
