VPL Preview | Victory head east for Lions clash

Melbourne Victory will look to return to the winners’ list when they take on Eastern Lions this Sunday.

Victory have endured a challenging few weeks, taking on several promotion rivals in succession.

Nonetheless, Joe Palatsides have come out the other end of their difficult stretch of fixtures still four points clear on top of the VPL1 ladder.

Last time out, Victory took a point from Kingston Heath Soccer Complex having played out a 0-0 draw with Bentleigh Greens.

On Sunday, Victory will head to their twelfth different venue this season to play a competitive fixture, taking on the Lions at Egan Lee Reserve.

Eastern head into the weekend sitting in tenth spot on the VPL1 ladder, but have been on a decent run in recent weeks, losing only one of their last four league games.

That one defeat did come in Eastern’s most previous outing, where they were beaten 2-0 by Bulleen Lions.

Victory will be aiming for a second consecutive clean sheet, coming up against the equal second-lowest scorers in the division.

The two teams met earlier in the campaign at JL Murphy Reserve, where Victory struck twice late in the piece to secure the win.

Adem Duratović and Matt Bozinovski were the scorers on that night, as Victory look to replicate their earlier result on a weekend that several of the teams vying for promotion are going head to head.

The game will kick-off at 3:00pm AEST.
