Preview

The stakes will be high as Victory and City clash on Saturday afternoon in one of the most hotly anticipated fixtures of the season.

Victory come into the game hoping to rebound from last weekend’s disappointing defeat to Caroline Springs George Cross.

The damage was done in the first half of the game, with George Cross scoring all four of their goals before half-time.

Victory improved significantly for the second 45, but had ultimately left themselves too much to do.

Saturday’s game though will be a chance to get back on track, coming up against a City team who head into the weekend’s fixtures in 8th position.

City also come into the weekend off the back of a defeat, having been bested 2-1 by Bulleen Lions last time out.

City’s biggest strength is in their attack, with only the top four teams having scored more goals.

Victory though will be motivated by the game’s potentially significant consequences in the promotion race, with Joe Palatsides’ team holding just a three point lead over their nearest competitors.

The two teams played back in round 7, with Victory running out comfortable 3-0 winners at Epping Stadium.

Adem Duratović, Jesse Hoey and Jack Mihailidis were the scorers on that day, with Victory no doubt aiming to replicate that performance in Saturday’s meeting.
