Melbourne Victory was edged 1-0 by Sydney FC in a Westfield W-League Semi-Final on Saturday.

Summary

Veronica Latsko’s first-half goal proved to be the difference between the teams at Epping Stadium.

Victory dominated the second half as it pushed, but was unable to find an equaliser.

The host created a wonderful chance in the 11th minute.

Natasha Dowie held up the ball in the area before teeing up Annalie Longo, whose low effort was saved by Aubrey Bledsoe.

But Sydney went ahead three minutes later, Latsko finishing a cross from Ally Green.

Victory goalkeeper Casey Dumont was called into action by Sofia Huerta’s 20-yard effort in the 17th minute, making a comfortable low save.

Melina Ayres and Angela Beard almost combined twice for Victory to finish the first half.

Ayres was just unable to get on the end of a cross in the 25th minute before later having a looping header saved.

Victory piled on the pressure to begin the second half, Amy Jackson forcing a good save from Bledsoe with a 20-yard strike after an Ayres pass.

Longo fired over from inside the area before Ayres was also off target after some nice footwork just after the hour-mark.

The dangerous Ayres curled a 20-yard effort just wide in the 68th minute as Victory continued to push for an equaliser.

Remy Siemsen missed a good chance for Sydney and Darian Jenkins fired over from an angle in additional time as Victory fell short.
