One of Melbourne Victory’s major partners, WorkSafe Victoria along with SunSmart spoke to the players and staff today about UV risk and how to protect yourself when working outdoors.

WorkSafe Victoria works with employers and employees to make Victoria the safest state in Australia in which to work.

The organisation is also committed to supporting injured workers return to work, and it continues to collaborate with stakeholders, health practitioners, employers and others to get injured workers back to suitable work as soon as it is safe for them to do so.

WorkSafe are proud to work with SunSmart to raise awareness of UV exposure risk in outdoor workers.

Outdoor workers in Australia receive five to 10 times more sun exposure than indoor workers, placing them at an increased risk of skin damage and skin cancer

But, most skin cancer can be successfully treated if detected early

1.        Prevent UV exposure by protecting yourself in 5 ways – hat, sunglasses, covering clothing including long sleeves and pants, sunscreen and seek shade

2.        Get to know your skin and check it regularly so you notice if anything changes

3.        If you notice anything worrisome go to see your doctor.

Those who work outdoors should use sun protection all year round.
