Y-League wrap: Victory claims win in Perth

Y-League wrap: Victory claims win in Perth

Melbourne Victory claimed a second straight win in the Foxtel Y-League, overcoming Perth Glory 3-2 on Sunday.

Nuh Sehavdic’s 60th-minute strike proved to be the winner at Dorrien Gardens after an entertaining encounter.

Pierce Waring had put Victory ahead, only for a Jake Brimmer penalty and Henry Hore effort to give the Glory the lead shortly after the break.

However, goals from Nicholas Sette and Sehavdic secured three points for Victory in Group A.

Victory head coach Gareth Naven was pleased with his team’s performance in Perth.

“Everyone played their part,” he said.

“Understanding the importance and the detail of the shape and structure to achieve your defensive capability and attacking capability needs to be at a level that’s consistent.

“It’s got to be eight out of 10 and that’s probably what we need to work towards more and more every session.

“Overall, it’s nice for the group to get success.”

Victory struck on the counter-attack in the 29th minute, Waring finishing to give the visitors a 1-0 lead.

But Brimmer’s penalty and Hore’s goal put Glory ahead early in a frantic start to the second half.

Sette rounded Nick Feely to equalise for Victory before his cross led to Sehavdic’s winner on the hour-mark.

Victory goalkeeper Matthew Sutton produced a fine display, including making a wonderful save to deny Michael McDougall in the second half.
