Melbourne Victory’s youth team will look to build on its win over Perth Glory last week when it takes on cross-town rivals Melbourne City at Lakeside Stadium on Sunday.
Victory got its Foxtel National Youth League campaign back on track with a 3-0 win over Glory on Sunday.
Victory was dominant for the outset, with the relatively experienced central pairing of Giancarlo Gallifuoco and Thomas Deng rarely troubled in defence.
Larwence Thomas enjoyed a largely quiet game in goal, whilst up front Jesse Makarounas and captain Joey Katebian caused havoc for the Perth defence.
A Glory own goal in the 14th minute got Victory on its way, before goals from Captain Joey Katebian and Jesse Makarounas sealed the result.
Melbourne City has enjoyed a strong start to its Foxtel National Youth League season and come into the Derby full of confidence after a 3-2 win over Adelaide United on Sunday.
Steve Kusmanovski, Stefan Zinni and Hernan Espindola all scored for City and Victory will need to keep the attacking trio quiet if it is to take all three points.
City, having played twice this year for one win and one draw, sits second on the Conference A ladder with four points.
A Victory win on Sunday will see it leapfrog Melbourne City and could see it climb to as high as second spot on the ladder.
With ladder position as well as Derby bragging rights to play for, Sunday’s clash at Lakeside Stadium looms as one not to be missed.
Entry to the match at Lakeside Stadium is free, with kick-off at 4.00pm.
