Melbourne Victory is pleased to announce the signing of defender Gema Simon for the 2022/23 Liberty A-League season.
Simon joins the Club for her second stint at Victory, with her first stint during the 2014/15 season, and was in Iceland with Throttur Reykjavik before making the move back to Melbourne.
The 32-year-old has represented the Matildas 11 times and made 142 appearances in the A-League Women’s competition, bringing a wealth of experience to the side.
Melbourne Victory Head Coach, Jeff Hopkins said Simon’s addition would bolster his side’s accomplished defensive line for the upcoming season.
“We’re incredibly pleased to welcome Gema to the side as we look to continue to bring together a squad that will again challenge for the Championship this season,” Hopkins said.
Gema has proven that she is one of the best fullbacks in the league and we’re looking forward to how her experience will help the team and the players around her.”
Simon was also delighted to be joining the Champions this season.
“I’m thrilled to be joining Melbourne Victory and helping the squad defend their title this season,” Simon said.
“Jeff and the squad have set the standard for women’s football over the past couple of seasons and I can’t wait to be part of this team and make history with the Club.”
Simon is the Club’s third new signing of the 2022/23 pre-season, joining Jessika Nash and Miranda Templeman and the re-signings of Tiffany Eliadis and Casey Dumont.
