Melbourne Victory midfielder Carl Valeri says he and his teammates are itching to get the season underway on Friday night.
Speaking before the team’s first training sesson on Etihad Stadium in 2014, Valeri said his side’s undefeated pre-season had filled the squad with plenty of confidence ahead of Friday night’s season opener against Western Sydney Wanderers.
“We’re very confident in ourselves, we believe in ourselves and there’s a great trust, not only amongst the players but the whole club,” Valeri said.

“It’s honestly like we’ve played with each other all our lives.
“It’s honestly a special feeling here at the club and, you know, I’m not just saying that because the cameras are here, it’s something that they’ve created and something I wanted to be part of.”
Kevin Muscat’s side takes on an in-form Western Sydney outfit and Valeri said the players had watched enough of their games throughout this pre-season to know how their Friday night opponents were shaping up.
Valeri also said the club was under no illusions as to what was expected of Melbourne Victory this season.
“Every important season I had in Italy, there was always a fantastic group of players and a fantastic club support behind them,” the 30-year-old said.
“That’s the key thing. We have everything here. We’ve spoken about the Championship, we dream about it, it’s our goal but now we’ve just got to get out there and do it.”
