Broxham said the number of goals being conceded each week was an obvious concern to Victory.
“We end up having to score three or four goals just to win a game,” Broxham said.
“It’s got to be defending first. If you’re a defender, you defend and do your job.”
He said last week’s Derby defeat had been a bitter pill to swallow.
“It wasn’t good enough,” he said.
“You lose a game 4-0 and it’s happened in the past not too long ago. We should have learnt our lessons from previous games, which we obviously didn’t.”
Melbourne Victory’s squad depth will again be tested this week, with Nick Ansell missing through suspension, while Adrian Leijer is still working his way back to full fitness following the facial fractures he sustained in February.
Adama Traore left training early today, but Broxham said his departure from Gosch’s Paddock was more of a precaution and a result of a heavy workload and expected the left-back to train fully on Thursday.
