Melbourne Victory is pleased to announce the signing of Danish international Rikke Madsen on an injury replacement contract.
The 25-year-old joins the Club on loan from American National Women’s Soccer League side North Carolina Courage and has represented her national team 21 times, coming off the 2022 UEFA Women’s Euro tournament in England.
Melbourne Victory Head Coach Jeff Hopkins said Madsen’s addition will add an attacking spark to his final third.
“We’re incredibly pleased to be able to welcome Rikke to the squad and we’re looking forward to what a player with her experience can do in the league,” Hopkins said.
“She is still a young player but her experience at club and international level is extensive, and we feel she will complement our style of play and ultimately help us in our journey in the league this season.”
Madsen was also pleased to be heading to the A-League with Melbourne Victory.
“I’ve heard a lot about the competition from abroad and I’m excited to experience a new challenge with Melbourne Victory,” Madsen said.
“Jeff and Victory are a bold and ambitious Club who want to achieve the ultimate success and it is clear to me that I want to be a part of this and help the team to reach their goal this season.”
Madsen will be an injury replacement player for Catherine Zimmerman who is set for an extended period on the sidelines with a fractured fibula.
Subject to international clearance, the Dane will available for Sunday’s contest with Newcastle Jets at AAMI Park, kick-off 6.15pm.
