Mark Milligan has upstaged Johnny Warren Medallist Marco Rojas to claim the Victory Medal as the club’s best player for the 2012-13 season.
The versatile Socceroos defender/midfielder compiled 53 votes to out-point Rojas (47) by six votes, while Adama Traore (42) and Leigh Broxham (31) made up the top four.
Rojas comfortably took out the award for the league’s best player 11 days ago but it was Milligan’s talent and leadership which saw him claim his club’s highest individual honour.
However, the Victory players honoured Rojas, who also won the ‘Golden Boot- award, with the ‘Players’ Player of the Year- gong.
Winger Connor Pain, one of the players who is expected to step up to fill the breach left by Rojas’ impending departure to Europe, won the NYL Victory Medal- as the most outstanding player in the National Youth League team, ahead of young full-back Dylan Murnane, with Christopher Cristaldo and Kwabene Boahene tied for third.
Cristaldo, who scored his first A-League goal this season, won the NYL ‘Golden Boot- award for his nine goals, while Petra Larsson won the Victory Women-s Medal, Maika Ruyter-Hooley, the Melbourne Victory Women ‘Players’ Player of the Year-, and Brianna Davey the ‘Young Player of the Year- for the second successive season.
