Melbourne Victory will play a home game at a fifth different venue of the season on Sunday afternoon, when they head north to welcome Langwarrin to Hume City Stadium.

The game is the first of the final month of fixtures, as Victory look to hold off the competition to secure top spot on the VPL1 ladder.

Victory come into the game off the back of last week’s narrow defeat to Brunswick City.

Goals from Austin Ganino and Tommaso Minutoli saw the league-leaders come from behind twice during the game, but ultimately a goal in the final 15 minutes was enough for Brunswick to secure all three points.

Victory though were not severely punished for the slip up in terms of the title race, with their two nearest rivals, Preston Lions and Northcote City, also suffering defeats.

As such, Victory once again head into the weekend’s fixtures sitting four points clear on top of the VPL1 table.

Sunday’s game against Langwarrin is a key opportunity to at least maintain that lead with only a handful of fixtures remaining.

Sunday’s visitors Langwarrin currently occupy fifth position on the table, having picked up 34 points from their 22 games so far this season.

Langwarrin have been in impressive form as of late, winning three of their last four games and losing only once in their last six outings.

Jamie Skelly’s team clearly pose a formidable task, a fact only reinforced by the earlier meeting between these teams in Round 10 this season.

Although Victory walked away from Lawton Park with a 3-1 win, the game itself was less straightforward than the scoreline suggests.

A pair of late goals from Tommaso Minutoli and Marc Petheriotis were required for Victory to grab the win, having played out an evenly-contested game up to that point.

With so much riding on Sunday’s meeting against an in-form team, Victory will need to bring their best football to Hume City Stadium.
