Melbourne Victory is pleased to announce the signing of midfielder Sofia Sakalis for the 2024/25 A-League Women’s season.
The 22-year-old joins the Club from Perth Glory where she made 41 appearances over three seasons in the A-League Women’s and also played the latest off-season with Box Hill United in the Victorian NPL.
The Victorian native has represented her country at Under 17 and Under 20 levels and was awarded Football Victoria’s Gold Medal Award for the best player in the NPL in 2022.
Melbourne Victory Head Coach Jeff Hopkins said Sakalis will add another element of creativity and flair to the Victory midfield.
“We’re thrilled to welcome Sofia back to Victoria for the upcoming A-League Women’s season,” Hopkins said.
“Sofia has been an incredibly consistent performer over in Western Australia and has matured as a footballer in her time away from Victoria where we believe she will be a strong contributor to our squad.”
“It’s great to have a Victorian and a consistent performer in the NPL Victoria in our squad for the upcoming season and we’re looking forward to seeing her deliver.
Sakalis was also looking forward to returning to her home state with Victory.
“I’m excited to be back home and playing football this season with Melbourne Victory,” Sakalis said.
“Victory has been a Club that has set the standard over the past couple of seasons and I feel I can help the squad achieve big things this campaign.
“I’m looking forward to working under Jeff and his coaching team as well as a really talented group of players and can’t wait to get started.”
Sakalis is the third new signing of the A-League Women’s joining Alana Jancevski and Nicki Flannery as Jeff Hopkins’ side returns to pre-season training on 23 September in preparation for the 2024/25 campaign.
